Fanny's 2 Disc Retrieving Method

Fanny, a black Labrador Retriever, sent me the following which she and her human (Angie) found useful when teaching Fanny to release the frisbee upon return from a retrieve.

That's Fanny in the picture on the right.

At first Fanny would run out and get the frisbee and bring it close but not give it to you.

We used the two frisbee system to teach her to release the frisbee.

Use 2 frisbees.  Throw one and hide the other behind your back. When your dog gets close with the first frisbee, whip out the one behind your back.

Most dogs will then drop the first and chase after the second. You MUST wait until your dog drops the first one before throwing the second (this was tough for the husband to learn).  Eventually the dog will come and drop it, anticipating the second frisbee.

Eventually you can go to using one frisbee.   We now use just one frisbee and Fanny retrieves it consistently and enthusiastically.
