Alpo Canine Frisbee Competition - 6/10/2000

Plf1 We arrived in Bogota on Bogota Day at 10:45 A.M.  Last year we were late, hit excessive traffic, got to the event just in time to start and then I was selected as the first competitor to go.   Well, I bombed, and swore that it wasn't going to happen again this year!    The event was listed on the Internet and in the Skyhoundz booklets as beginning at Noon so we figured we had about an hour to kill.  Then we ran into some folks who were running the Fair who informed us that the Frisbee Dogs weren't starting until 3:00!  Well to make a long story short, there were a grand total of seven teams who all either read that the event was at Noon or saw it on the Internet.  We were all anxious and raring to go at 12:00.  The event actually started at 1:00.

The rules used were not in sync with this year's revised rules.  The course was set up somewhat similar to previous years', but with a slight difference.  Lines were marked at 10, 20 and 30 yards and scoring was 1-2, 3-4 or 5-6 points respectively.   It actually made for an interesting contest.  It was a very hot day, especially after hanging around in the heat for 2+ hours.  None of us had great rounds.   You could see all the guys (and gals) at the end of their rounds with their tongues out either walking on returns or barely running.  In fact, on my second round after retreieving the next to last throw I gave the frisbee to my partner, Bob, with about 4 seconds left on the one minute round.    He figured, great, one more throw and might as well make it a long high one to go for six points.  Well, I took one look at that throw and said to myself, "yeah, right, I'll just run out and catch that one......Not!".  I stood there on the starting line and watched it land 30 + yards away.  Then I casually walked out, picked it up and walked back........   I'd had enough!  Being 90 lbs. and playing frisbee in 90 degree weather in a black fur coat just doesn't cut it without an inground pool nearby!   I certainly appreciate the events that start nice and early in the warmer months!
