Saugerties FrisbeeDog Competition - 5/30/98

A happy Rudy The 1998 Northeast season continued Saturday (5/30) with the ALPO Canine Frisbee disc Championships at Cantine Field in Saugerties, NY. This event provided competitors and spectators with sunny (but windy) weather and some exciting performances from area veteran and novice teams. This years competition format featured two rounds of Mini-Distance fetch-and-catch. There were two, one minute rounds.  Catches were scored based on distance of the throws:

10-15 yds. = 1 point
15-20 yds. = 3 points
over 20 yds. = 5 points

For each catch that all four of the dogs feet were off the ground he/she got another point.

The results are:

  1. First Place- Bunting (Mix)- 72 points (33/39)
  2. Second Place- Smokin (Golden Ret)- 67 points (30/37)
  3. Third Place- Nitro Ned (Border Collie)- 60 points (27/33)
  4. Fourth Place- Rudy (Lab)- 49 points (17/32)

Crowd Pleaser- Bonzai Baby (Aussie)- 42 points (10/32) [Bonzai Baby is the first deaf dog to compete in an ALPO Canine Frisbee event]

Special thanks to event hosts Johnny McGuire and Phyllis McGuire. I'm that told next year's event will feature a barbecue cook-out following the conclusion of the competition. Stay tuned!

Congratulations to Champion Allison Bell & Bunting !!!

Another special thanks to Eric Miller for the above chronicle of the Saugerties event.
