Shamrock Showdown - Wyndmoor, PA
Canine Frisbee Competition - March 2, 2002
This second annual event was sponsored by the Liberty Flyers club and
held at Y2K9 Sports in Wyndmoor just outside Philadelphia. The event was top notch.
The Y2k9 indoor training center was the perfect site and we didn't have to worry about the chance of rain or unpredictable wind.
USDDN rules were used for Toss and Fetch and Freestyle competitions. For
Toss & Fetch (my favorite) we had 2 full minutes per round and the top 5
catches in each round were scored. Two minutes is a lot of running!
I slept very well that evening...... and the next day!
My thanks to the judges and volunteers for all their hard work. There was
even a French guy judging who said he was just coming back from judging the
Olympic Figure Skating. ....so I bought him a piece of pizza.
;-)
Here are the top 3 finishers in each class. As soon as I get the complete
results I'll post everyone's scores and place:
Novice - (2 rounds Toss & Fetch, 1 freestyle)
| 1st | Rudy & Bob | Lab | |
| 2nd | Tali & Jimmy | Border Collie | |
| 3rd | Dream& Nick | Aussie |
Advanced - (2 rounds freestyle, 1 Toss &
Fetch)
| 1st | Rapid Riley & Nick | Border Collie | |
| 2nd | Dasher & Ed, Aussie | Aussie | |
| 3rd | River & Joelle | Aussie |
Accuracy Sweepstakes - (One Round)
| 1st | Rudy & Bob | Lab | |
| 2nd | River & Joelle | Aussie | |
| 3rd | Riley & Nick | Border Collie |
It was a great competition and I personally had a lot of fun! My only gripe is the naming of the classes as "Novice" and "Advanced". Just because a dog doesn't do a fancy freestyle routine, doesn't mean he (or she) is a frisbee novice! That would be like calling Olympic speed skaters or hockey players novices because they don't do spins and triple lutzes like the figure skaters. Well that's my editorial for the day. ;-)
